DEFLASKING
Buying a flask is usually a very inexpensive way to obtain a number of orchids. The flask will be sold with the proper nutrients inside (agar solution) and thus only needs good light.
This flask was approximately two years old and contained C. Intermedia Coerules X Self (crossed with itself) and will grow to a pretty flower:

We will now deflask this orchid and thus show you a method you can use to deflask all orchids.
1-Place the flask on its side on a thick towel. Lay this on a hard surface:

2-Now wrap the towel over the flask and hit with a hammer until it breaks. Do not hit hard! Just hard enough to break the glass - you will hear it break when it happens.

3-Carefully unwrap the towel and then carefully pull the broken glass apart.

4-Here is the flask with the top half removed.

5-We were careful and still suffered a minor cut on our thumb.

6-Here are the baby orchids, all in bundle

7-Now rinse under room temperature water to remove root debris and then gently pull apart somewhat

8-Now carefully and gently plant in sphagum moss - this moss tends to retain moisture. This small pot is known as a community pot, also known as a compot.

9-DONE! Now watch it does not dry out but do not overwater - small pots like this tend to dry out faster. If the moss feels dry at the surface, it is time to rewater.
